Who We Are
Plant Maintenance, Inspection and Engineering Society's (PMIES) goals are twofold: One, promote the dissemination of information to Maintenance, Inspection, Engineers and Operations for the safe, efficient and environmentally friendly Operations of Plants in our area due to utilization of state-of-the-art processes, products and services. Two, provide financial support to academic institutions and persons attending those institutions in the way of scholarships, endowments or grants to encourage students to enter science, technical and engineering professions that support the first goal. PMIES is a Texas Not for Profit Corporation listed under the IRS as a 501(c)3 charity.
Management -
As per our Articles of Incorporation, Officers are elected via voice vote every year and Committee Members are appointed for yearly terms by the Officers. Officers and Committee Members of Plant Maintenance, Inspection and Engineering Society also "dual hat" under ASME South Texas Section, Plant Engineering and Maintenance Technical Chapter (ASME PEM.) As a 501(c)3 and State of Texas Corporation, we are required, annually, to remit Form 990 concerning the financial status of our Organization to the US Internal Revenue Service and maintain good standing with the State of Texas via filing of Franchise Tax.
We have no paid employees in the Corporation and all work is performed by volunteers, mostly by Officers and Steering Committee Members. We do pay stipends for clerical assistance to manage the data required to conduct our Expo each year.
Meetings -
We conduct joint PMIES and ASME PEM Monthly General Meetings, located at various business locations around the Houston Ship Channel each month excluding Summer months and the month that we hold the Exposition and Conference. These Monthly Meetings, typically held the second Thursday of each month, are one and a half hour deep dive presentations on a technical topic pertinent to achieving Goal One above.
We also conduct an annual, one-day PMIES Exposition and Conference held either in March or April each year at the Pasadena Convention Center, The Exposition has over 140 booths of exhibitors presenting state-of-the-art products and services that are utilized within our area Plants. The Conference consists of over ten presentations geared towards information to help run our area plants in a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly manner.
Scholarships -
In 2018, we awarded $58,500 in Scholarships to 13 Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Technology Students located in 5 Area Universities. These scholarships are awarded via our oversight and approval of funds from our ASME Foundation Account.
In 2018, we also awarded a Endowed Scholarship Fund in the amount of $50,000 to the Mechanical Engineering Department of Texas Tech University in the name of ...
Previously, we endowed a $25,000 Memorial Scholarship to Texas A&M University in Galveston in the memory of Ms. Brooke Chapman, the daughter of one of our Committee Members, in recognition of her outstanding character and service both at the University and within the Community.

Our Funding
Our primary and currently only source of funding for scholarships is via the Exhibitor Contributions to the Expo and Conference we put on each year. In 2018, Gross Receipts for the Expo and Conference were approximately $159,900 with Disbursements of $58,500 to meet expenses for the Expo.
As mentioned the Committee currently oversees the ASME Foundation Account which as of March 31, 2018 holds $669,542.93 (unaudited.)
We also manage an operating account at a local bank that at present holds $288,001.29 as of July 31, 2018 (unaudited.).
In addition, we manage a PayPal account in order to receive credit card payments that contains $20,626.83 as of July 31, 2018 (unaudited.)
